This fall, the Montmorency Forest, the largest teaching and research forest in the world, offers a mycology activity combining the outdoors and education! Along with our enthusiastic guide, go on an outing into the heart of the boreal forest and collect one or more mushroom species, including Tube Chanterelles (craterellus). Upon return, clean and prepare your produce during a short culinary workshop. Finally, relax in good company as a snack is served, including dishes with produce from the boreal forest.

Sundays, Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and October 6th** 2019
**The October 6th activity will be canceled if there is frost in the forest.     

Time: 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Meeting point is at the reception desk of Montmorency Forest at km 103 of the 175 N direction Chicoutimi).

Capacity: 20 people (minimum age: 8 years old) *Minimum 4 people to hold the activity

  • Welcome and presentation of the ecosystem, identification, harvesting methods and favourable conditions for mushroom production.
  • Interpretation walk and mushroom gathering in the heart of the balsam fir-white birch forest. The guided tour takes place on foot, a distance of approximately 3 to 4 kilometers on trails and in the forest. To get there, you will be transported in a minibus leaving from the main pavilion of Montmorency Forest.
  • Cleaning and short culinary workshop on cooking and conservation of mushrooms.
  • Boreal flavored lunch.

The activity includes:

  • Accompaniment by our guide and culinary workshop.
  • Forest hiking
  • Right of access.
  • Instruction sheet and recipes.
  • Lunch : including quiche, mushroom and veal meatloaf, salad bar, dessert and drinks.

Required materials:

  • Rain boots or warm waterproof shoes
  • Warm clothes / raincoat
  • Knife or jackknife
  • Plastic bag containing a paper bag or basket.
  • Water and snacks for the period of time spent in the forest.


The event takes place rain or shine. Only the guide can cancel the activity due to special situations or extreme weather. Should this occur, the activity is transferable or refundable. *The 9th of October activity will take place if there was no frost and if there are enough mushrooms available.
