Collection and processing of balsam fir

Embrace winter: The Montmorency Forest offers an activity that combines the outdoors with education! Accompanied by our naturalist, take a guided snowshoe tour and collect Boreal Forest products. What a great opportunity to learn about the boreal ecosystem! Upon your return, learn how to dry and clean what you’ve harvested. Finally, as a climax to this nature and dining experience, enjoy a culinary workshop and learn more about the use of the balsam fir.

Dates: January 26, February 9 and 23, March 8 and 22, 2020

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. * bring a grocery store – type bag for gathering Capacity: 15 people (minimum age 8 years) Minimum of 6 clients is needed for the activity to take place.

Welcome at the pavilion. Short technical presentation then into the forest. Return to the lodge for the preparation of the harvests. Lunch. Culinary workshop (no cooking).

The activity includes

  • Visit to the forest with our naturalist / guide and culinary workshop.
  • Snowshoeing in the Forest. (bring your snowshoes or rent a pair at our reception desk)
  • Right of access.
  • Lunch at our cafeteria
  • Fresh (and some dry) fir to use at home.
  • Instruction sheet and recipes.
  • Food you have prepared to enjoy at home.


Price for 2020: $58,46$ + taxes ($52,61+ taxes UL members) * $7.00 to 14.00 $ (depending on age) discount for overnight guests on the preceding Saturday 

Reservations must be completed before 5 p.m. on the preceding Saturday.
