GUIDED BACKCOUNTRY BOREAL EXCURSION

Discover the best of Quebec’s off-trails with an experienced guide in the heart of the boreal forest.  Forêt Montmorency offers new off-trail areas every year, created by its lumber industry. Hundreds of hectares await your discovery! The activity can be done with Skishoes (hok) or skis with skins.

Operating Period: Every Saturday from January 25 to February 29, 2020 (depending on the depth of snow)

Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. approximately (meet at front desk at 8:45 a.m.)

Maximum Capacity: 4 to 8 people (14 +/see prerequisites below) *4 person minimum for the activity to take place

OBLIGATORY PREREQUISITES FOR PARTICIPATION:
Have taken the snowshoe initiation course or equivalent experience.
Be capable of standing up on your own (without skis, you should be able to squat, fall to the side and get up without difficulty).
Be in good physical condition (able to walk 15 kms., ascending and descending, in powder snow)

SCHEDULE
8:45                           Group welcome and explanations
9:00-10:30                 Hiking to forest edge
10:30-11:30                First ascent and descent
11:30-12:00                Lunch in a shelter (Bring your lunch)
12:00-14:00                Off-trail exploration
14:00-15:30                Return to pavilion

What to bring :
Warm clothing, a change of clothes, winter boots (not boots which are too soft on the top; winter hiking boots are recommended), hat and mittens. You’ll be out for most of the day, so bring a backpack to transport everything.
Dress warmly in layers of breathable fabric.
Food and water to hydrate regularly.
If you do not wish to bring your own lunch, you can order our lunch boxes for $ 17,80 + taxes. Reservations required no later than 5:00 p.m. the previous day.
Skishoes (hok) available for rent.

The activity includes:
Supervision by an instructor,
Access to a heated shelter
Right of access

In case of bad weather? The event takes place rain or shine. Only the guide can cancel the activity in the event that the temperature is extreme       (-35 C⁰) or if the snowfall is not adequate. In such cases, the activity is transferable or refundable.
